Landmark of Hope

Editorial Newspaper

Landmark of Hope is a restoration effort for the historic First Baptist Church in San Marcos, TX. The church was the center of the black community in the 1850s until it was burned down by the KKK a few years later. Today the church sits abandoned and deteriorating. I created this newspaper to bring awareness and support to the group of people working for the restoration effort Landmark of Hope. The newspaper provides historical context, resources on how to get involved, and an editorial poem by a community member. Thanks to the heightened awareness brought to this church they were just awarded a $150,000 grant by National Geographic to aid in the restoration.
